Humbert Humbert (Published on 11/19/2013 17:25)

I realized a few weeks ago that my user name resembles the name of the famous hebephile Humbert Humbert from Lolita,  a novel by Vladimir Nabokov, about an obsessed hebephile. A hebephile, if you did not know, is a person that has “a sexual preference for a specific physiological appearance related to age.” And the crispiest part: they are often obsessed with a prepubescent or child.

My actual name is Humberto. So I figured that my user name should resemble my name or a nickname that my friends use: Humber. Thus, Humber Humber. I don’t regret it. But I can’t help to think about hebephiles every now and then when I come here to write. I wonder how psychologically disturb these poor people must be. How abused, neglected, and despondent they must be.
